At the beginning of this year I had no idea what was about to enfold just a few days after 2011 started. I had so many different plans, and nearly none of them have I worked on. Truth is life caught me off guard. It was the good type of surprise, the kind of surprise when someone steals a kiss from you.

I wasn’t expecting to celebrate this Valentine’s Day in a romantic kind of way. As a matter of fact I expected to bake cookies for kids, sit down and enjoy a scary movie… work on homework pretend that this overrated holiday didn’t exist. Then I had my Life Changing Weekend and I kid you not I came out a different person from that place. I took a risk.

I look back on the post “ Letter To A Friend “ Days after I posted that things changed, a lot. A few weeks after that post I realized I had a crush on that friend, nothing was going to happen he was a friend a very valuable friend. Then I decided to take a risk, and before I knew it the Universe had taken a crazy spin, wilder than anything I ever thought possible. He was my Valentine. We watched the sunset, we watched the moon, he walked me home, he made me smile like I hadn’t in years. Funny how little things roll into bigger things. I felt the butterflies, I felt nervous and happy. Then it hit me how we underestimate the power of touch, and when he held my hand everything just felt right. Oh the changes of life!

Smile, let the butterflies roam free.

Another holiday! I actually found out this holiday existed last year. I know, some might think its another Hallmark and Candy and basically another “Time for Business” day but if you think about it it’s actually quite nice. Friendship Day might sound like a Middle of the Year Extension to Valentines Day.

“Don’t walk in front of me,
I may not follow.
Don’t walk behind me,
I may not lead.
Walk beside me and
be my friend.” – Albert Camus

For those that don’t know (and I know many who don’t) Friendship day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August, and as the name might give away it is a day to celebrate your friends. A lot of people spend time with their friends, some give gifts. Basically its a day to let your friends know how much they mean to you (We all have that friend that’s always there for us). Although you can (and would be nice) to do this in any other day of the year, the cool this is that not a lot of people know about this holiday. Why is it it “cool”? Because it can come to your friends as a surprise! You can let them know it’s a holiday too.

It’s nice to tell your friends that you value their friendship. Perhaps with a song, a letter, a card (E-Card), maybe a gift, a treat, even just saying it!

Ah what better way to finish this post on Friendship Day than with a song!

Smile, because you are someone’s friend.

February the 14th seems to be a day of mixed feelings. We all know how that goes some are lonely and depressed, others just don’t care what day it is and others are busily enthusiastic about this romance/lusty filled day. Many of us have gotten sucked into this holiday by everything around us. Wherever you go you will find something that tells you Valentines is just around the corner. For some people (usually single people) it feels like mockery, “Look at me!” says that giant teddy bear in the store aisle, “I love you! Oh wait you’re single, sorry I don’t love you.” Don’t get me started on the candy… For other “fortunate” souls, Valentines Day is a glorious day. The perfect excuse to go with your loved one to that one special place or to do that one special thing. Hey, its even right for some to take out their pen and paper and write the World’s Corniest Poem and yet look like a total winner.

So if you were home stuck watching ‘SNL’ and crying after Seth Myers comment after his “Weekend Update”  segment, don’t worry Valentines Day is over. Don’t worry you survived yesterday now it’s time to continue with life. If on the other hand you spent your day with your sweetheart, well Valentines Day is over for you too. Show your loved one that you can be equally romantic any day of the year and I guarantee you that your day will be better than yesterday.

Good-bye Valentine’s Day, see you again next year.
